Shōta Sometani

I have a real soft spot for Shōta Sometani, because he's the kind of actor who quietly vanishes into a role instead of selling you a movie-star face. He started as a child actor, so the camera's basically his native habitat, and you can feel that ease in how unbothered he is on screen. Whether he's playing a shadowed loner or some twitchy oddball, I always end up thinking "yeah, people like that exist" rather than "ah, an actor performing." His Elan d'Or newcomer prize back in 2013 made total sense to me, since being skilled without ever feeling smug is a weirdly rare balance. That slippery, hard-to-pin-down texture is honestly a little enviable. I just want him to keep sneaking into films and pleasantly fooling me for years.
