Shūichi Asō

I'll be honest, I have endless respect for Shūichi Asō, the brain behind The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. The premise alone gets me: an all-powerful psychic whose only real wish is a boring, normal day. That's such a perfectly cynical-yet-cozy idea, and the comedy he wrings out of it is relentless, this avalanche of rapid-fire gags and tsukkomi where the punchlines barely give you room to breathe. Cranking out that density week after week is genuinely brutal work, and he made it look effortless. He's a Saitama kid, born late 1985, and there's something fitting about a craftsman who never chased the spotlight himself but poured everything into making readers laugh. I love that kind of behind-the-scenes funny guy, the one who lets the work do all the talking.
