My Take
Born in Toyama in 1997, Shunya Morita he went through Toyama Shogyo High School and then Hosei University before reaching professional baseball in Japan. To a reader outside the country that may sound like a plain resume line, but both of those schools sit inside brutally competitive baseball pipelines. Japanese high school and university baseball funnel tens of thousands of players toward a few hundred professional slots, and simply being on the far side of that filter is an achievement most players never reach. He pitched Toyama Shogyo to the summer Koshien as its ace, spent time with the corporate team Honda Suzuka after Hosei, and joined the Yomiuri Giants as their second-round pick in the 2023 draft, making his first-team debut in July 2025. Some careers are best watched from the beginning rather than summarized at the end.
