My Take

I'll be honest, Steven Kwan is the kind of player I root for even when he's playing against my team. The guy is the anti-launch-angle hero in an era obsessed with home runs, slapping the ball the other way, fouling off pitch after pitch, and basically refusing to strike out. Watching him work an at-bat feels almost stubborn, like he's quietly daring the pitcher to throw something he can't put in play. His MLB debut in 2022 was unreal, and I loved that he turned out to be a genuinely elite defender in left field too, not just a contact savant. He's proof that bat control and a Gold Glove still matter, and frankly I find that refreshing. Easy player to love, hard one to get out.

Born in Los Gatos, California and raised in Fremont, California, Kwan played three years of college baseball at Oregon State University before being selected by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB draft.
