Steven Wilson

What I admire most about Steven Wilson is that he refuses to outsource any part of his craft. Founder of Porcupine Tree, member of Blackfield, Storm Corrosion and No-Man, and a prolific solo artist with eight albums since 2008, he also engineers and produces the work himself, owning the sound from conception to final mix. That total control is rare and, I think, the reason his records feel so cohesive. He never chases trends; he just builds a dense, personal world album after album. For me, Wilson is the model of the patient artisan who would rather go deep than go viral.
