My Take
Sugao Kambe is one of those guys who just never quit on the game — born in Shizuoka City in 1961, which honestly says a lot by itself, because Shizuoka is basically Japan's football heartland, the kind of place where kids grow up with a ball at their feet before they can properly read. He went all the way to Waseda University, so this wasn't just a jock-gets-lucky story; the man had real substance. What I find genuinely compelling is the full arc: player, then coach, then he branched into futsal too. A lot of people drift away from sport once their knees give out, but Kambe just kept finding new ways to stay in the game. That kind of lifelong commitment to a single pursuit — not chasing fame, just staying close to what you love — is quietly admirable in a way that flashier careers rarely are.
