My Take

What draws me to Susan Greenfield is her refusal to stay behind the lab door. Plenty of neuroscientists rack up honours and disappear into journals, but she carried her work on Parkinson's and Alzheimer's straight into the House of Lords and onto the airwaves. I particularly admire that she stuck her neck out on how technology reshapes the brain, a topic guaranteed to invite criticism. Being a baroness is the lesser headline to me; what counts is a scientist willing to translate the wet, living brain for ordinary people. That public courage, more than any medal, is what earns my respect.
