Tariq Ali

Tariq Ali is exactly the sort of relentless public intellectual I find valuable, whether or not one shares his politics. Writer, journalist, historian, novelist, filmmaker, and lifelong activist, he has spent over half a century refusing to soften his convictions, contributing to the New Left Review, The Guardian, and the London Review of Books. From Lahore to Oxford, he built a voice that insists on arguing about how the world actually works. I respect that kind of intellectual stamina enormously. Thinkers willing to keep provoking the conversation, decade after decade, are increasingly rare and genuinely necessary.
