My Take
Born on 7/7 — Tanabata, the Japanese star festival — Tatsunari Nagai already has a built-in origin story before he even touches a ball. A goalkeeper from Nagaokakyo in Kyoto Prefecture, he was a national high school runner-up at 17, then spent years working his way through Roasso Kumamoto, Kyoto Sanga, Iwaki FC and regional clubs before FC Osaka, where he led J3 in clean sheets two seasons running. That long detour ended with a move to Shonan Bellmare and a first shot at J1 in his twelfth professional season. I have a real soft spot for keepers who refuse to quit, and a Tanabata-born late bloomer is exactly the kind of story I root for.
