My Take
Ted Cassidy is forever locked into my memory as a towering screen presence, and the basketball-player background in his profile makes perfect sense of that. A Pittsburgh native who studied at Stetson University, he used his unusual height to carve out a niche as a character actor and voice performer in 1960s and 1970s American television and film. I find it a little bittersweet that his life was cut short in 1979, because there's a sense he could have kept reinventing that imposing physicality. To me he's proof that a distinctive presence can become a whole career.
