Teddy Riley

Teddy Riley belongs in any conversation about the most influential producers in modern music, because he did something rare: he invented an entire genre. New jack swing welded hip-hop's rhythm to R&B's melody, and you can hear his fingerprints all over the records of Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown and countless others. That Hollywood Walk of Fame star is well earned. What fascinates me is how a man working largely behind the boards reshaped the sound of an era more decisively than most front-and-center stars ever do. I always want to applaud the people who quietly move the culture.
