My Take
Trevor Dunn is the sort of musician I instinctively gravitate toward: the unflashy anchor whose low end holds the most experimental music together. Rising through Mr. Bungle and orbiting John Zorn's world, he occupies a space where you cannot fake competence. His range across jazz, film scoring and composition reveals serious musical literacy, not just chops. I admire that he came up the unglamorous way, from Eureka High School to Humboldt State, and never seems to chase trends. To me he embodies the craftsman's ethic, chasing his own sound rather than the spotlight, and that quiet integrity is deeply appealing.
