Wanderlei Silva

Wanderlei Silva is, to me, the embodiment of what made mixed martial arts thrilling. Out of Curitiba, Brazil, he built a legend in Japan's PRIDE, holding records for most wins, knockouts, title defenses, and the longest winning streak. But records undersell him; what mattered was the reckless, forward-charging fury of his style, the sense that he put his soul on the line every single fight. He earned the nickname 'The Axe Murderer' honestly. His affection for Japanese fans only deepens the legend. Win or lose, he gave audiences something visceral and unforgettable. For me, he simply represents the raw heart of the sport.
