My Take
Warren Beatty is one of those old-Hollywood figures who feels almost mythic to me, the rare leading man who could be a heartthrob in Bonnie and Clyde and then turn around and direct, write, and produce something as ambitious as Reds, which earned him that Best Director Oscar. What I love is how unhurried his whole career was, a guy who clearly cared more about getting things exactly right than cranking out movies, so when he did show up it actually meant something. There's a sly intelligence in his best work, a charm that never tips into smug, and a real political seriousness lurking under the movie-star gloss.
