My Take

YG is the rapper who reminded everyone that West Coast gangsta rap could still feel urgent and modern. My Krazy Life remains a near-perfect debut, a day-in-the-life concept record produced largely by DJ Mustard, with that bouncy, minimalist ratchet sound that defined an era. What I respect most is that he never just made club records; tracks like FDT showed real political nerve, and the Nipsey Hussle collaborations carry genuine weight given everything since. He raps with a swagger that's all Compton but with a storyteller's eye underneath. Underrated as an album artist, in my opinion, not just a singles guy.
