Yoshiyasu Sasagawa

I've got a real soft spot for guys like Yoshiyasu Sasagawa, this Yokohama kid born in 2002 who came up through Yokohama Commercial High, the old "Y-ko" with baseball baked into its bones. There's something about a local player grinding it out on his hometown dirt that just gets me, you know? He's barely into his twenties, an unfinished prospect with the flashy resume still mostly blank, and honestly that's exactly what makes him fun to watch. SoftBank took him in the second round of the 2020 draft and he reached the top team in 2024, and I like the shape of his story so far: salt air, a port city, a kid chasing the ball. Whatever he becomes, I'm quietly rooting for him to climb. That kind of "what comes next" energy is my favorite part of following anyone this early.
