My Take
For a lot of people outside Japan, Miyamura is one voice: Asuka Langley Soryu. That performance is so seismic it tends to eclipse everything else, which is a shame, because the rest of her resume is stranger and more interesting. Born in Kobe in 1972 and trained at Toho Gakuen, she also gave us Kazuha Toyama in Detective Conan and Casca in Berserk, three roles with almost nothing in common emotionally. What I keep returning to, though, is that she moved into sound direction and audio engineering. A voice actor's job is to deliver a performance; a sound director's job is to make everyone else's performance land. Those are opposite ends of the same room, and very few people willingly walk across it.
