Yulianna Avdeeva

Yulianna Avdeeva's playing carries a quiet intensity I admire. A Russian classical pianist born in Moscow and trained at the Gnessin Special School of Music and the Zurich University of the Arts, she brings a rare blend of steel and tenderness, especially to Chopin. Born in 1985, she has built an international career on recordings and performances rather than spectacle, and that is precisely the kind of artist I fall for. At the keyboard, origin and era fall away and only the sound speaks. I value performers who let the music do the arguing, and she strikes me as exactly that sort of genuine, deeply serious musician.
