Mizutani has done nearly all of it: child actor, hit-making singer, film director, and for decades the face of the detective series Aibou. What I admire is the restraint. Watch his early work and the heat sits right on the surface; the older Mizutani simply folded it inward. He can drop one quiet line and the whole scene tightens.
