Andrew W.K.

Andrew W.K. is the rare artist who turned pure joy into a coherent worldview. Born in Stanford and raised in Michigan, this multi-instrumentalist welded rock, metal and pop into anthems that essentially command you to have a good time. It would be easy to dismiss the party-everything persona as a gimmick, but I think that misses the point. Underneath the relentless positivity is a genuine, almost philosophical commitment to encouraging people, which is why he became a motivational speaker too. He took something supposedly shallow and made it sincere. I find that combination of silliness and conviction genuinely endearing.
