Anish Kapoor is, in my view, one of the few living artists whose work genuinely stops people in their tracks. Born in Mumbai and trained in Britain, he won the Turner Prize in 1991 and has since collected a CBE, a knighthood, the Padma Bhushan, and the Praemium Imperiale. Cloud Gate in Chicago alone proves his gift for turning polished surfaces into mirrors that swallow a whole city. I am drawn to how he makes scale feel spiritual rather than merely big. Even his controversies, like monopolizing the blackest black, reveal an artist obsessed with perception itself. A true visionary.
