Annise Parker

Annise Parker fascinates me as a study in patient, methodical ambition. She didn't parachute into power; she earned it, serving on Houston's city council, then as city controller, before becoming the 61st mayor of one of America's largest cities in 2010. That financial-management background tells me she understood the machinery of governing, not just the optics. I respect leaders who master the unglamorous parts of the job, and Parker clearly did. Coming out of Rice University and rising through Texas politics, she represents the kind of grounded, results-focused public servant I find genuinely admirable and far too rare.
