My Take
Austin Nichols is the sort of actor I find quietly indispensable. Most people know him as Julian Baker in One Tree Hill, but his Spencer Monroe in The Walking Dead is what sticks with me, a character who lived in the murky space between decent and selfish, which is genuinely hard to play. The Michigan-born, USC-trained Nichols also writes and directs, and I suspect that storyteller's eye is exactly why his performances carry extra texture. He is the kind of reliable character actor a good ensemble is built on.
