My Take

Avi Loeb fascinates me because he is a credentialed insider, a Harvard astrophysicist who once chaired the astronomy department, who chose to risk his reputation on the unfashionable question of alien technology. Plenty of scientists privately wonder about life beyond Earth; few will stake their name on it in public the way he did with Oumuamua. I do not know if he is right, and I suspect he often is not, but I value the willingness to be wrong loudly. Founding the Black Hole Initiative proves his seriousness; the daring proves his curiosity. That combination is rarer than it should be.
