My Take

Becki Newton has quietly become one of my favorite scene-stealers. Her Amanda Tanen on Ugly Betty was vain yet impossible to dislike, and that balance is harder to pull off than it looks. Add Quinn on How I Met Your Mother and Lorna Crane on The Lincoln Lawyer, and you see a Penn-educated actor who keeps elevating supporting roles into something memorable. Playing the standout in someone else's story is, to me, the toughest job in television. Newton does it again and again, and she deserves more credit than the marquee names usually leave for her.
