My Take

Billy Mays was, to me, more than a pitchman. He turned the act of selling into something close to performance art, hawking OxiClean and Kaboom with that booming voice and unmistakable beard until a generation could not picture infomercials without him. From McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, he built a brand on pure conviction. His death in 2009 felt far too early. What I respect is rare: the ability to transmit genuine energy through a screen, to make a viewer believe. Plenty of people sell products, but very few make the audience feel something. He sold belief, and that is a craft worth honoring.
