My Take
Butch Davis embodies the kind of football mind I genuinely admire: the architect who rebuilds programs from the inside out. From Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and the University of Arkansas, he climbed through Oklahoma State and Miami before becoming the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator and later a head coach at Florida International. That long apprenticeship, defense first, signals a man who understands the unglamorous heart of winning. Designing a defense rarely makes highlight reels, but it decides outcomes. I respect coaches who think in systems rather than flash, and Davis's decades of staying in the arena reflect a stubborn devotion I find easy to honor.
