My Take

Candy Hsu is exactly the kind of artist I find myself rooting for. Born in Kaohsiung in 1998, she writes and composes her own material and plays piano, saxophone, and guitar, which immediately tells me she is a maker, not merely a performer. There is a real difference between singers handed a song and those who build one from the inside out, and Hsu clearly belongs to the latter. Taiwan's music scene is crowded and it is easy to be overlooked, but multi-instrumental songwriters tend to endure because their craft is their own. I am genuinely curious to watch where her self-driven, hands-on approach takes her next.
