My Take
Casey Affleck is, to my mind, one of the finest practitioners of quiet acting working today. Where his older brother built a career on charisma, Casey built one on restraint: the mumbled line, the averted gaze, the grief held just below the surface. His Oscar-winning turn in Manchester by the Sea is a masterclass in saying less and meaning more. I also respect the Columbia-educated curiosity that pushes him toward writing and producing rather than coasting on acting alone. He will never be the loudest presence in a film, and that is precisely why I find him impossible to look away from.
