Chang Kang-myoung

What draws me to Chang Kang-myoung is the journalist-turned-novelist pedigree. A Yonsei-educated reporter who pivots into science fiction carries something most genre writers lack: a trained eye for how real institutions actually fail people. I suspect his speculative worlds feel uncomfortably plausible precisely because he spent years documenting the real one. Born in 1975, he grew up inside South Korea's breakneck transformation, and I imagine that tension feeds directly into his fiction. He keeps an active presence online too. He strikes me as a writer worth reading slowly, the sort whose ideas linger well after the last page.
