David Lowery

Lowery is one of the most quietly versatile filmmakers working today, and I find his career genuinely fascinating. He can write, direct, shoot, and cut his own films, which gives his work a singular, unhurried voice. What grabs me is his range: he moved from the hushed melancholy of Ain't Them Bodies Saints to a big-budget Disney remake without losing his soul. Few directors can carry indie restraint into studio scale. He trusts silence and patience over spectacle, and that confidence is rare. From his Milwaukee roots to Sundance acclaim, he feels like a director still building toward his best work.
