Don Ho

Don Ho fascinates me less as a chart phenomenon than as a one-man tourism board for Hawaii. "Tiny Bubbles" could have been a novelty footnote, yet he turned it into an enduring invitation, a whole island mood compressed into a single relaxed song. I value performers who win audiences through warmth rather than vocal fireworks, and Ho clearly did. Singer, actor, songwriter, he wore many hats, but the throughline was hospitality. There's real craft in making people feel welcome, and I think that easygoing generosity is exactly why his name still carries the scent of the Pacific.
