Frank Stephenson

Frank Stephenson is a name most people couldn't pick out, yet his work shapes how millions feel about cars every day. What grabs me is the sheer breadth: Ford, BMW, Mini, Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, McLaren. Designers usually marry one brand's house style, but he kept reinventing himself across them. His Mini Hatch redesign is the one I keep coming back to, because it pulled off the near-impossible: honoring a beloved original while making it genuinely modern. Born in Casablanca, trained at Art Center, calling him one of the most influential automotive designers alive feels earned, not like hype.
