George Lazenby

Lazenby fascinates me precisely because he is the man who walked away. A Goulburn model with zero film credits, handed the most coveted role on earth as James Bond, and then he let it go after a single picture. Most people would call that the great blunder of his career, and maybe it was, but I find a stubborn integrity in it. On Her Majesty's Secret Service has aged into a fan favorite, which makes his exit sting and shine at once. To me he is a reminder that fame is not always the prize a person actually wants to keep.
