Glenda Jackson

Glenda Jackson belonged to a rare club: a Triple Crown of Acting, with two Oscars, three Emmys, and a Tony. Most performers would build an entire identity on that, yet she walked away from acting to serve as a member of Parliament for over two decades. That is what I admire most, the sheer uncompromising will of the woman. From a working-class start in Birkenhead, she fought on her own terms on stage, on screen, and in the Commons, never flattering anyone. She died in 2023 at eighty-seven, but that fierce, unblinking gaze is impossible to forget.
