My Take
Gordon MacRae is the sort of golden-age entertainer I find genuinely warming. His rich baritone in the film versions of Oklahoma! and Carousel carries an open-hearted clarity that modern crooning rarely matches, and his On Moonlight Bay films with Doris Day feel like sunlight bottled from another era. What I appreciate is that he was a true double threat, singing and acting with equal sincerity rather than coasting on either. His Hollywood Walk of Fame star is well earned. He left us in 1986, but I think of him as a reminder of how generously straightforward old-school showmanship could be.
