Hiroki Totoki

Hiroki Totoki is the kind of person who makes you realize the most powerful people in Japan are often the ones you've barely heard of. Born in Yamaguchi in 1964 and educated at Waseda, he climbed through Sony over decades doing the hard unglamorous work — finance, strategy, operations — and by the time he became CFO and then President, the company had genuinely turned itself around. No scandal, no viral moment, just a guy who understands balance sheets the way musicians understand rhythm: intuitively, deeply, and with real consequences when you get it wrong. I find that kind of quiet competence more impressive than most celebrity, honestly.
