Jeff Bauman

Jeff Bauman's story moves me deeply. He lost both legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and became known worldwide through a single harrowing photograph from the aftermath. But what I most want to honor is what came next. Rather than being defined as a victim, he co-wrote the memoir Stronger, which became the film starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Born in 1986, he was young when his life was upended, yet he chose to rebuild and to put his experience into words. To me he stands as a powerful testament to human resilience, and I hold him in real esteem.
