JJ Lin

JJ Lin is, without exaggeration, one of the defining voices of Mandopop. Born in Singapore, he turned a gift for melody and that warm, slightly aching tenor into a two-decade run of ballads that are karaoke staples across the Chinese-speaking world. What I respect most is that he's a genuine craftsman; he writes and produces, not just performs, which is why his songs age so well. Being named among Asia's most influential figures feels earned rather than handed out. When I want Mandopop that balances technical polish with real emotional pull, JJ is the first name that comes to mind.
