My Take

To me, Joe Strummer remains punk's great moral conscience. Born in Ankara to a diplomat's family and raised across continents, he carried a global, restless empathy into the Clash that few of his peers matched. What I admire most is his refusal to let punk calcify into mere noise and anger; he folded reggae, dub, and worldly compassion into the music. Losing him at fifty still feels like a robbery. His lyrics keep finding new listeners who need permission to care loudly, and that durability, more than any chart position, is the real measure of the man.
