My Take

John Gallagher Jr. is one of those actors who quietly floors you — the kind who could have coasted on a Tony Award win at 22 and nobody would have blamed him, but instead he just kept finding weird, interesting corners to work in. His Moritz Stiefel in the original Broadway Spring Awakening was genuinely electric, all raw nerves and desperate yearning, and it set the tone for a career built on vulnerability rather than leading-man polish. I love that he bounced from prestige theater to The Newsroom to smaller indie films without ever seeming like he was chasing a brand. He's the actor you notice in a supporting role and then immediately Google to see what else he's done. Criminally underutilized by Hollywood, but somehow that feels right for him.
