My Take

Jonathan Harris is a name every fan of classic American television should honor. Born in the Bronx and a Fordham graduate, he logged more than 500 film and television appearances across a long, dedicated career. To me his masterpiece will always be Dr. Zachary Smith on Lost in Space, a fussy, cowardly villain he played with such delicious theatricality that he practically stole the show. Later he lent his distinctive voice to beloved animated characters, proving his range. A poet as well as a performer, he stayed devoted to his craft until his death in 2002. I applaud him wholeheartedly.
