Judy Shelton

Shelton interests me as one of economics' genuine contrarians. Advocating a return to the gold standard and comparing the Federal Reserve to Soviet planning is not the safe path to influence, yet she pursued it all the way to a White House advisory role under Trump. I do not have to agree with her to respect the conviction. In a field that rewards consensus, a thinker willing to stand outside it sharpens the debate. Whether her ideas prove right or wrong, her refusal to be domesticated by the mainstream is precisely what makes monetary policy arguments worth following.
