Kisenosato Yutaka

Kisenosato is, to me, one of sumo's most human champions. Reaching the top makuuchi division at just 18 hinted at a meteoric rise, yet his climb to ozeki took years of grinding in the junior san'yaku ranks. That slow, stubborn ascent is exactly what I find moving. He carried the immense weight of being the great Japanese hope and never flinched, even as injuries shadowed his peak. He is remembered less for his record than for his bearing under pressure. Now an elder shaping the next generation, that same honest persistence should serve his young wrestlers well.
