My Take
Kota Asai is the kind of athlete who quietly earns your respect — a keirin racer out of Kuwana, Mie, which sits right on Ise Bay, and there's something about that geography that fits him: coastal, steady, not flashy. He came out of the cycling club at a local high school in Mie, turned pro in 2005, and kept turning the pedals all the way to two KEIRIN Grand Prix titles. I respect that. The sport itself is a sprint discipline with genuine tactical brutality — you're drafting, watching rivals, picking your moment — and the ones who stick around long enough to build a career tend to be stubborn in the best way. Asai feels like that kind of stubborn.
