My Take
Kurumi Takama is a volleyball player out of Okazaki, Aichi — and if you know anything about Okazaki, you know it's the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the guy who literally unified Japan. Whether that city energy translates to court presence, I can't say for sure, but there's something fitting about a fighter coming from that town. Born in August 1999, she's squarely in that generation of players who grew up watching Japan's volleyball boom and decided to jump in themselves. She's in her late twenties, which in volleyball terms means she's either hitting her stride or just about to — and that's genuinely the most interesting phase to watch. With two national college titles at Tsukuba and a World University Games silver behind her, a player from Aichi now starting over at Shinshu Brilliant Aries is exactly the kind of story I root for before everyone else catches on.
