My Take
What fascinates me about L.A. Reid is that he built his legend without ever needing the spotlight himself. Running Arista, Island Def Jam, and Epic, he sat in the chair where careers are made or broken, and he kept choosing right often enough to shape decades of popular music. To me that is a rarer gift than performing: the instinct to hear a hit before it exists and the nerve to bet a label on it. The fact that he later founded his own company tells me the appetite never faded. I deeply respect these architects who work behind the curtain.
