My Take

Lázaro Armenteros, the kid they called Lazarito, carries the weight of a familiar but always moving story: a teenage prospect leaving Havana with a continent's worth of hype on his shoulders. Born in 1999, he arrived as one of Cuba's most talked-about young talents, and I always find myself rooting for players walking that path. The leap from island sandlots to the brutal grind of professional baseball is enormous, and most who try never quite make it. Whatever his stat line ends up being, I admire the courage it takes to chase that dream across an ocean.
