My Take
Lil Pump is pure internet-era pop culture in concentrated form: love him or roll your eyes, 'Gucci Gang' was a perfectly engineered piece of repetitive, dopamine-hit minimalism that defined the SoundCloud rap moment. He was barely seventeen when he became a meme and a star simultaneously, which tells you everything about how the music economy shifted toward virality over craft. I do not think he is a technical heavyweight, and his output has been wildly uneven, but as a cultural marker of the late-2010s rap landscape he is genuinely significant. He understood attention better than almost anyone his age.
