Mae West

Mae West fascinates me less as a sex symbol and more as a self-made author of her own myth. Writing her own plays and screenplays at a time when women rarely controlled their own narratives, she weaponized wit, double entendre, and that unhurried contralto to stay in command of every room. A career spanning seven decades is not luck; it is intelligence, nerve, and an unshakable refusal to apologize. I admire how she turned suggestiveness into something brainy rather than cheap. She wrote her own rules and made the culture catch up. That, to me, is the real legacy worth saluting.
